On a rainy Saturday afternoon, the UW-River Falls women's lacrosse team was able to defeat Southwestern University 14-10, winning the Falcons' 2021 home opener.
Starting the game off, the Pirates were first to score. But shortly after, Falcons senior Gina Jablonski was able to come back and tie the game up. After this goal, the Falcons continued to be unstoppable on offense, scoring 8 goals before the end of the half and only allowing 3. Jablonski led the Falcons in the first half with 2 goals.
The second half proved that getting an early lead can help win games.
During the second half, Southwestern outscored the Falcons 7-6, but it was their 5-goal lead from the first half that helped UW-RFÂ see the result through. Jablonski, Josie Johnson, and Emily Herdine all pumped in three goals on the day, while Grace Ross recorded six saves in goal to pick up the win.
In a quick turnaround, the Falcons will take on Carthage College (WI) on Sunday, March 28th for their second home game of the season. Game time is set for 1pm.
