Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Falcons Remain in First Place After Gutsy Road Draw

On the road and facing one of their top rivals, the UW-River Falls Falcons knew they needed to be at their best to get a result, and get a result they did. While both they, and their opponents UW- Eau Claire, would have wanted the full points from the matchup, the teams split them with a 1-1 draw.

Falcons senior Time Gelatt scored the only goal for the Falcons at 18:38 in the first. Gelatt was assisted on the goal by Brock Draeger and Same Anzai. With such a late goal, the Falcons were hopeful that would give them some momentum heading into the next stanza, but the Blugolds first responded themselves.

At 11:08 in the second, Derek Hammer knocked in a goal to tie things up, a goal that would prove to be the last of the night for either team. After a physical second period that resulted in six total penalties between the two teams, both squads held firm in the third period to send the game into overtime.

During overtime, the Falcons had full control, out-shooting the Blugolds 12-1, but couldn't sneak one past the keeper. The game ended in a 1-1 draw, good enough for the Falcons to retain sole possession of first place with 11 points.

The result brings UW-RF's record to 5-3-1. Their last regular season game will be played at home on Friday March 5th at 7:05p against UW-EC.
