Falcons Split on the Road

After playing just two days ago in River Falls, the Falcons of UW-RF traveled to UW-Platteville to take on the Pioneers on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. Just like the matchup prior, both teams went home with a win after all was said and done.

Game 1

In the beginning of game one, the Falcons found themselves needing to fire up their bats after the Pioneers ran one across the plate in the bottom of the 2nd. However, it wasn't until the top of the 3rd when the game took a new tone.

Natalie Bosch was first to the plate and after a few pitches she was able to take a walk to first base. Freshman Johanna Breyen then laid a bunt down the third base, advancing Bosch to second and beating out the throw herself.

Next to the plate was senior Rebecca Daley and she singled to right field, loading the bases.

After a flyout for out one, Bri Daechsel stepped to the plate for the Falcons and smashed a double to left center, picking up two RBIs to bring Bosch and Breyen in to score.

Chapin Rappaport then singled to right field to advance Daley and bring in Daechsel, increasing the lead to 3-1. Lindsey Strom followed that up by putting down a phenomenal bunt to get on base and advance Rappaport.

Not wanting to let the bases loaded opportunity to go to waste, senior slugger Allison Kondzela doubled down the left field line to gain two RBI's and bring home both Daechsel and Rappaport, pushing the lead to 5-1.

After some infield and pitching changes, Megan Halvorson flow out to left field, but Strom was able to tag up and cross homeplay. Back to the top of the line up, Bosch bombed a double to left center to bring Kondzela home bringing the score to 7-1.

The Pioneers picked up a few runs in the final two innings, but it was a case of too little too late as the Falcons picked up the win 7-4.

Juliana Reynolds picked up the win in the circle, striking out three in route to improving her record to 6-3 on the season.

Game 2

After a break, the Pioneers brought a much more lively team.

Unable to get the offense going, the Falcons saw UW-P go up 3-0 early, then opened things up in the 4th by adding on eight runs. The Pioneers won 11-0.

With the split, the Falcons bring their record to 9-9 on the season and 4-4 in the WIAC.

The Falcons next matchup will be at home on Tuesday, April 20th when they take on the Eagles of UW- La Crosse. Game one with start at 2pm.
