On a overcast Saturday afternoon, the Falcons took to the field for their last home games and last games of the regular season, taking on UW-Whitewater.
Game 1
After picking up a run in the first, the Warhawks big hitters came alive even more in the 4th, bringing in four runs to increase their lead to 5-0.
Even though the Warhawks were off to an early lead, the Falcons were not going down without a fight. Allison Kondzela and Lindsey Strom drew back-to-back walks, setting the Falcons up for a big inning.
Sophomore shortstop Sammie Harms laid down a gorgeous bunt down the 3rd base line to advance both runners, setting up Falcons leadoff hitter Johanna Breyen to hit a booming single to right field, bringing both runners in to score.
The Falcons were not done yet with senior Rebecca Daley hitting a single and advancing Breyen to second. Laying down yet another SAC bunt was Natalie Bosch, advancing the runners yet again.
Next up, Tayler Fall to hit the fence with a single to center field bring in both Daley and Breyen to score, closing the gap to 5-4.
Unfortunately for the Falcons the top of the 4th, the Warhawks pushed another five runs across the board to bring the score to 10-4.
The Falcons tried to make a late push by adding on two runs in the 6th, but it wasn't quite enough as they fell 10-6.
Game 2
The break between games wasn't enough to cool off the Warhawks offense as they once again got off to a quick start, finding themselves up 10-0 after four innings.
Though the Falcons had ground to make up, they kept their heads held high and found their bats coming to life in the bottom of the 4th. After a fielder's choice, Piton found herself at first with her trusty first basemen Chapin Rappaport behind her. On a fielding error, Rappaport found herself at first and Piton advanced to second.
With two runners on, Kondzela found her opportunity to put the ball in play leaving Strom with a great opportunity. With bases loaded, the hard-hitting Strom smacked a single to bring Piton in to score.
Unfortunately for the Falcons, that was all they could muster up and they fell in game two 14-1.
After the two losses, the Falcons finish they regular season with a record of 11-17 and land themselves the 7th seed going into the WIAC playoffs. The Falcons will be traveling to UW-Whitewater on Tuesday for the WIAC playoffs.
