RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The UW-River Falls men's hockey team defeated UW-Stout 7-2 Tuesday evening at Hunt Arena, completing the season series sweep over the Blue Devils.
The Falcons put together a complete game, scoring a season-high seven goals, which included five even-strength goals, a four-on-four goal, shorthanded, and power play tally. UWRF's seven goals was the most since the Falcons defeated Northland College 7-3 on Feb. 1, 2020.
Seven different Falcons found the back of the net, while
Noah Roofe (1g-2a),
Noah Ganske (1g-2a),
Valentino Passarelli (1g-2a), and
Gibb Coady (3a) each had three-point nights.
UWRF opened the scored at 13:40 as Passarelli and Roofe connected during a four-on-four opportunity, with Roofe burying his team-leading fifth goal of the season and giving the Falcons a 1-0 lead after the first period.
The offense broke open in the middle frame as the home team scored four consecutive goals from
Alex Davis, Passarelli,
Dayton Honkanen, and
Brock Draeger. The Blue Devils scored a shorthanded goal late in the period to trim the UWRF lead to 5-1 heading into the final 20 minutes.
Ganske scored on the power play under a minute into the third period and then assisted on a
Gabe Wahl goal, giving UWRF a six-goal cushion.
UWRF held a 30-23 lead in shots on goal, with five Falcons recording three each.
Dysen Skinner logged 21 save to earn the win and improve his record to 7-2 on the season.
UW-River Falls, now 9-5-1 overall and 5-2 during WIAC play, has a pair of non-conference home games this weekend, hosting St. Olaf College Friday and Saint Mary's University on Saturday.
