OSHKOSH, Wis. – The UW-River Falls men's basketball team fell 89-84 Saturday at No. 5-ranked UW-Oshkosh.
Freshman center
Rodrick Payne led the Falcons with a career-high 27 points, shooting 11-of-17 from the field with a team-high nine rebounds.
Conversely, the Titans were led by a career performance for Levi Borchert, who compiled a double-double with 32 points and 15 rebounds.
Both teams shot 53 percent from the field with 32 total rebounds each. Oshkosh was strong from beyond the arc at 40 percent, compared to a 4-of-19 mark for UWRF.
In the first half, Payne accounted for nearly half of the Falcons' field goals, totaling 14 points while UWO earned a 46-39 lead.
UWO took an early 14-4 lead four minutes into the game and led throughout despite several Falcon runs.
Trailing 79-64 with six minutes left in regulation, UWRF went on a 19-5 run capped off by a three-point and-one
Regan Merritt layup and free throw that cut the Oshkosh lead to 84-83 with just over a minute left. The Titans answered with a clutch three-pointer and closed out the game with a pair of free throws.
Behind Payne's 27 points,
Noah Hanson scored 14 points followed by 10 points and two steals from Merritt.
The Falcons return to Page Arena to host UW-Stout next Wednesday, Jan. 26.
