RIVER FALLS, Wisconsin – The UW-River Falls men's hockey team suffered a 1-4 loss Saturday night to No. 13 UW-Stevens Point.
The Falcons got into penalty trouble in the first period with back to back penalties at the half way mark giving the Pointers a 6-4 player advantage on the ice. UWRF killed the power player opportunity and held the Pointers off from scoring. In the final minutes of the first period, the Pointers found the back of the net taking a 1-0 lead heading into the first period break.
In the second period, the Pointers scored their second goal at 6:47 taking a 2-0 lead. The Falcons found themselves again on the penalty kill at 12:48 when
Chase Davidson was called for cross checking.
Gibb Coady took a pass from
Jack Kilroy to score a shorthand goal at 14:41 getting the Falcons within one.
The Pointers scored two more goals in the third period. The first came at 12:04 by Brady Smith. Stevens Point sealed the deal with an empty net goal at 18:29 in the final period to give them a 4-1 lead.
The Pointers outshot the Falcons 26-20.
Dysen Skinner suffered his fifth loss of the season giving up three goals but collecting 22 saves.
UWRF travels to Northland College Thursday January 27, for a WIAC matchup in Ashland. Puck drop is 7 p.m.
