MENOMONIE, Wis. – The UW-River Falls women's basketball team earned its second consecutive conference win Wednesday evening, claiming a 67-63 road win at UW-Stout.
UWRF improves to 9-8 overall and 2-6 in the WIAC, salvaging a series split with the Blue Devils.
Macy Nilsen led the Falcons with a double-double, totaling 28 points off 9-of-16 shooting along with 10 rebounds.
Despite the home team outscoring the Falcons 30-18 in the paint, UWRF shot 9-of-24 from beyond the arc while each team collected 35 rebounds.
In the first half, Nilsen scored 18 of the Falcons' 30 points, going 4-for-6 from three-point range while UWRF shot 40 percent from the field and from long-range.
While the Blue Devils got off to a strong start and led 18-7 after the first quarter, the Falcons stormed back to outscore the home team 23-14 in the second quarter, capturing their first lead of the game with a Nilsen triple that put UWRF up 25-23.
After Stout opened the second half on a 9-6 run, the Falcons outscored the Blue Devils 12-3 during the final four and a half minutes of the third quarter and led 48-44 heading into the final 10 minutes after a
Kameri Meredith layup.
The lead swapped a couple times to open the fourth quarter before the Falcons put together a 9-1 run to earn a nine-point lead with four and a half left in regulation, capped off by Nilsen's fifth three-pointer on the night.
UWRF went 9-of-12 at the charity stripe in the fourth quarter to sink the Blue Devils and earn the road victory.
Jenna Zeman added 14 points and four assists, while Meredith talled seven boards and a pair of steals.
Taylor Crissinger also collected eight rebounds with two assists off the bench.
The Falcons travel to UW-Oshkosh on Saturday, Jan. 29, to face the Titans in a non-conference game. The game will not count towards the WIAC standings, per league protocol due to the originally scheduled Jan. 8 game being canceled due to COVID protocols.
