MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The UW-River Falls men's hockey team fell by a score of 2-1 at No. 4-ranked Augsburg University Thursday evening during the 2022 opener.
The Falcons, now 8-4-1 overall, were down by a pair of goals heading into the third period and out-shot the home team 13-4 in the final 20 minutes, but came up short by one goal.
After a scoreless first period, the Auggies were strong in the middle frame, holding the Falcons to just four shots on goal while claiming a 2-0 lead.
UWRF pushed back in the third, getting on the board with a
Josh Martin blast from the point, his second goal of the season.
After a UWRF timeout with under two minutes remaining in regulation,
Dysen Skinner was pulled for the extra attacker, but to no avail as the Augsburg defense and goaltender Jack Robbel turned aside UWRF's comeback effort.
The Falcons face another MIAC opponent on the road on Saturday, Jan. 8, facing Bethel University in Blaine, Minn.
