SAINT PETER, Minn. – The UW-River Falls men's basketball team opened its 2022-23 season Friday evening at Gustavus Adolphus College, defeating the Gusties 62-58.
UWRF had strong shooting numbers, shooting over 40 percent from the field, converting 22-of-54. Sophomore transfer
Logan Jedwabny led the Falcons during his UWRF debut, compiling 20 points off 6-of-14 shooting from the field, and led the team with seven rebounds.
In the first half, the Falcons shot 10 points off Gustavus turnovers and led 12-8 in the paint.
Down 15-7 eight minutes in, UWRF answered with a 10-0 run as jumpers from Jedwabny and
Will Van Scoy gave the Falcons a 17-15 lead. In the back-end of the first half, the Falcons outscored the Gusties 18-8. A
Dylan Parker layup gave UWRF a 35-23 lead at the half.
Gustavus outscored UWRF 35-27 in the second half but couldn't break the Falcons' lead. A Gustie three-pointer with just under seven minutes left in regulation trim the UWRF lead to 49-47, but it was the closest the home team cut into the Falcon lead.
UWRF maintained a 13-11 lead down the stretch to seal the win.
Parker totaled 13 points and led the Falcons with five steals, while
Marshall Holland tied a career-high with four blocks.
Up next, the Falcons head to Wheaton, Ill., to compete in the Wheaton College Classic Nov. 18-19.
