ST. PAUL, Minn. - The UW-River Falls men's hockey team fell 6-5 Saturday evening versus Hamline University at the TRIA Rink.
The Falcons, now 3-3 overall, previously defeated Hamline 4-0 during the season opener Oct. 28 at Hunt Arena.
Down 5-1 eight minutes into the third period, the Falcons put together a strong rally, featuring four third period goals including three on the power play, but it was too little too late.
UWRF outshot the Pipers 42-20, led by seven shots on target from
Noah Ganske, who tallied a pair of assists.
After
Billy Feczko and the Falcons opened the game's scoring just under three minutes into regulation with help from
Mike Gelatt, the Pipers scored five consecutive to gain a 5-1 lead eight minutes into the final frame.
Goals from Vilho Saariluma and
Burke Simpson cut the home team's lead to 5-3, but Hamline answered again to lead 6-3.
Down by three goals late in regulation, the Falcons made a strong comeback effort, scoring twice in the final two minutes.
Burke Simpson scored his second of the game and second as a Falcon at 18:27, followed by a
Connor McGrath goal with 38 seconds remaining, but it was too little too late.
After conceding five goals,
Dysen Skinner was relieved by
Dean Buchholz for the final nine minutes. Skinner took the loss as his record dips to 3-3 on the season.
The Falcons open their WIAC schedule next weekend versus UW-Superior and UW-Eau Claire.
