ST. PAUL, Minn. – The UW-River Falls men's basketball team improved to 2-2 overall with a 90-88 win at the University of Northwestern Tuesday evening.
UWRF shot a season-best .569 from the field, led by the trio of
Rodrick Payne,
Dylan Parker, and
Logan Jedwabny, who combined for 50 points.
Payne shot 8-of-12 for a team-high 21 points, Parker had 15 points and four steals, and Jedwabny totaled 14 points with four triples and a team-high seven rebounds.
Northwestern also had strong shooting numbers, including 14 three-pointers. UWRF outscored the Eagles though in the paint, 48-28, and were paced by a collective effort with all nine Falcons with minutes in the scoring column.
The Falcons and Eagles were neck-and-neck all night, trading the lead nine times. UNW gained an early 7-0 lead before UWRF answered with an 8-0 run capped off by a
Terence Anthony-Larmouth triple to give the Falcons their first lead of the game just under four minutes into regulation.
After back-to-back Jedwabny three-pointers near the 12 minute mark the Falcons held the lead for the remainder of the first half and carried a 44-41 advantage into the break.
The Eagles were hot from three-point range in the first half, converting 9-of-16, and then shot 5-of-16 in the second half while the Falcons continued to shoot consistently. A Northwestern jumper with 7:21 left in regulation was the last lead of the game for the home team at 75-72. A
Mason Anderson triple gave UWRF a seven-point lead with 3:26 remaining and the Falcons held on for victory down the stretch.
UWRF hosts Finlandia University tomorrow night at Page Arena for the 2022-23 home opener.
