RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The UW-River Falls men's hockey team defeated Concordia University Wisconsin 2-0 Friday evening at Hunt Arena during the series opener versus Concordia University Wisconsin.
UWRF peppered 52 shots on goal, and Concordia's starting goaltender Cole Shane stopped the first 37, holding the home team scoreless in the first two frames before leaving the game due to injury.
Not long after CUW's Shane was relieved by backup goalie Liam McGarva, UWRF scored on the power play, with freshman
Connor McGrath scoring his first goal as a Falcon to break the shutout. He was assisted by
Noah Roofe and
Noah Ganske.
Late in regulation, the visitors received their second five-minute major penalty of the game, allowing UWRF to go on a man advantage for the remainder of the game.
Gibb Coady scored an empty-net goal with just seconds left to put UWRF up 2-0.
UWRF's 52 shots on target is the most since recording 53 against the same team in 2009 during a 10-1 victory.
Noah Ganske led UWRF with a career-high 15 shots on goal, and the home team led 48-19 in faceoffs, including a 19-1 win/loss ratio for
Noah Roofe.
Dysen Skinner made 18 saves to tally his fourth career shutout and second of the season.
The Falcons, now 2-1 overall, look for the sweep over CUW tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. from Hunt Arena.
