RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The UW-River Falls men's hockey team defeated Concordia University Wisconsin 4-1 Saturday evening to earn the nonconference series sweep.
The Falcons, now 3-1 overall, used a trio of third period goals with four different goal scorers total to down the visiting CUW Falcons.
Connor McGrath scored his second goal in as many games to open the scoring at the 16-minute mark of the first frame, and UWRF led by one at the first intermission.
CUW tied the game at one apiece with its first of the weekend in the second, and held a 23-21 lead in shots on goal heading into the final 20 minutes.
Just under five minutes into the third period, a Falcon penalty granted CUW its sixth power play of the night, but the UWRF penalty killing unit took advantage of an odd-man break as
Alex Davis finished a pass from
Dylan Smith to give UWRF a 2-1 lead, the eventual game-winner.
Billy Feczko scored his first goal as a Falcon late in regulation with help from his linemates
Jack Kilroy and
Peter Grytdahl, and
Gibb Coady scored an empty-net goal with under a minute remaining.
Each team had 33 shots on net, and both were unsuccessful on the man advantage, with CUW going 0-for-7 and UWRF 0-for-3. The home team led 36-26 in faceoffs.
Dysen Skinner tallied a season-high 32 saves in net while earning the win.
Up next, UWRF hits the road to face St. Olaf College on Thursday, Nov. 10.
