LA CROSSE, Wis. – The No. 23-ranked UW-River Falls football team fell by a score of 24-17 at No. 7-ranked UW-La Crosse Saturday afternoon.
While the Falcons led 350-314 in total offense, La Crosse held River Falls to under 100 yards of rushing and forced four Falcon turnovers.
UWRF took the first lead of the game, scoring on its first drive with a
Michael Krueger rushing touchdown, his eighth of the season.
The Eagles tied the game late in the first quarter, then held UWRF scoreless until the fourth quarter while gaining a 24-7 lead.
Down by 17 points with under seven minutes remaining, the Falcons started to rally with a
Kaleb Blaha rushing touchdown, followed by a
Justin Scheberl 23-yard field goal to trim the UWL lead to 24-17.
With just 12 seconds remaining in regulation, UWRF successfully recovered an onside kick to grant the Falcons one last chance, but it was too late as UWL shut down UWRF to improve to 8-1 on the season.
Blaha completed 24 of 47 pass attempts for 263, with his favorite target
Luke Kush catching seven for 98 yards.
Aaron Borgerding led the Falcond defense with 11 tackles.
Dylan Brown had a pair of pass breakups and
Frank Hartman tallied two quarterback hurries.
The Falcons, now 5-4 overall and 3-3 during WIAC competition, close out the regular season next Saturday, Nov. 12 at home versus UW-Stout during Senior Day.
