Pipers rally past Falcons in overtime

RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The UW-River Falls men's basketball team fell 75-72 in overtime versus Hamline University Saturday at Page Arena.

UWRF falls to 4-7 overall during its first overtime contest of the season.

The Falcons held the Pipers to under 40 percent shooting in the first half while converting nearly 50 percent from the field and 4-of-8 from beyond the arc. Mason Anderson made five triples in the first half, giving the Falcons their largest leads of the half, including one late to put UWRF up 34-26 at halftime.

A pair of Rodrick Payne layups to open the second half extended the Falcons' lead to double digits, and UWRF led by as many as 12 again with a Payne three-pointer, setting the lead at 41-29 with 16:30 left.

Down by 11 with just under six minutes left in regulation, Hamline rallied with a 15-4 run to tie the game at 67-67 to force overtime.

Hamline's Bradley Cimperman made a pair of clutch jumpers with under a minute left in OT to secure the win.

The Falcons led 46-34 in rebounds while the Pipers led 38-32 in the paint.

Rodrick Payne led the Falcons with his first double-double of the season, totaling 27 points and 11 rebounds. Mason Anderson followed with a career-high 22 points, including 5-of-6 made three-pointers and three steals.

UWRF returns to action hosting the Radisson Holiday Classic Dec. 29-30 at Page Arena.
