Falcons snap losing skid with shutout over Blue Devils

MENOMONIE, Wis. – The UW-River Falls men's hockey team earned a 1-0 win at UW-Stout Friday evening.

With their first WIAC win of the season, the Falcons snap a six-game losing streak to improve to 4-7 overall and 1-4 in the WIAC. UWRF will look for the weekend sweep over Blue Devils tomorrow night at Hunt Arena.

The Falcons played stellar defense, limiting UW-Stout to just 13 shots on goal, a season-low shots against total. Dysen Skinner recorded his third shutout of the season in his 10th start as his record improves to 4-5.

Freshman forward Dylan Smith scored the game-winning goal near the midway point of the contest, scoring his third of the season, on the power play with help from Noah Roofe and Burke Simpson.

The Blue Devils pulled their goalie late in regulation, but couldn't tie up the game as the Falcons returned home with the victory.

UWRF totaled 29 shots on target, and held Stout to just two shots in the final 20 minutes. The Falcons went 1-for-4 on the power play while UW-Stout went 0-for-3.
