PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The UW-River Falls women's basketball team fell 66-63 at UW-Platteville Saturday afternoon.
With the loss, the Falcons fall to 10-12 overall and 3-9 in the WIAC.
After a strong first half led by senior point guard
Jenna Zeman's 19 points, UWRF led 34-30 at halftime. The Pioneers then limited the Falcons to just eight points in the third quarter, stealing the lead the sealing the win down the stretch. UWP took its first lead since the first quarter midway through the third, leading 37-36. From then on, the Falcons and Pioneers went back and forth, with eight lead changes.
A fastbreak layup from
Macy Nilsen and
Kameri Meredith three-pointer gave UWRF a 56-52 lead with 5:27 left in regulation, but UWP was solid in the final minute of regulation with its leading scorer Maiah Domask and the WIAC's leading rebounder pushing the Pioneers past the Falcons.
Domask put the home team up 62-60 with just a minute left in the game. Another Meredith triple trimmed the Pioneer lead to 64-63 with 10 seconds left, but the Falcons were forced to foul in which Domask converted both to give the Pioneers the victory.
Zeman totaled a career-high 25 points off 8-of-16 shooting from the field and 4-of-8 from beyond the arc.
Cassie Heinrichs followed with 13 points and 10 points off the bench from
Olivia Miron, who also led the team with eight rebounds.
Platteville led 44-33 in rebounds, led by a double-double of 31 points and 15 rebounds from Domask.
The Falcons close out the regular season next Wednesday, Feb. 16 at Page Arena, hosting UW-Stevens Point during Senior Night, honoring
Haley DeSouza and
Jenna Zeman.
