RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The UW-River Falls men's hockey team fell 3-2 in overtime versus UW-Eau Claire Friday evening in the opening game of the WIAC Tournament/Commissioner's Cup Semifinals.
The Blugolds' Ty Readman scored twice, including the game-winner at the 3:28 minute mark of the 3-on-3 overtime period.
UWEC held a 25-20 edge in shots on goal along with a slim 29-28 lead in faceoffs.
After the visitors took an early lead just over a minute into the game, the Falcons answered with goals in each the first and second period to take a 2-1 lead.
Cayden Cahill scored the equalizer at 12:36 of the first period, redirecting a
Jack Kilroy shot to even the score at 1-1 heading into the first intermission.
UWRF outshot UWEC 7-6 and scored the lone goal of the middle frame. Kilroy notched his second point of the night and his third goal of the season, tipping in a
Logan Severson shot to give the Falcons a one-goal lead heading into the final 20 minutes.
The Blugolds knotted the score at two apiece at 12:18 of the third period, with Readman scoring on a rebound, his first of two on the night. During the overtime period, an errant Falcon shot caromed around the glass and led Readman to a breakaway goal.
Dysen Skinner made 22 saves while suffering the loss.
UWRF was 0-for-2 on the power play and turned away one Blugold power play opportunity.
Game two takes place at 7:05 p.m. tomorrow night from Hunt Arena.
