RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The No. 2 seed UW-River Falls men's hockey team suffered a 3-1 loss to No. 3 seed UW-Eau Claire Saturday evening at Hunt Arena, bowing out from the WIAC Tournament in the semifinals.
UWRF finishes its season with a 13-13-1 overall record.
The Falcons and Blugolds were neck-and-neck through the first two frames, tied 0-0 heading into the final 20 minutes as the shots on goal read 12-11 in favor of UWRF.
Noah Ganske put the home team up 1-0 five and a half minutes into the third period, sending a wrist shot past the Blugold netminder off a pass from
Noah Roofe for his team-leading eighth goal of the season.
UWEC then scored three unanswered goals, tying the game at 12:25 and scoring the eventual game-winner just a few minutes later.
Down 2-1 late in regulation, the Falcons pulled goaltender
Dysen Skinner for the extra attacker, but were assessed a penalty for too many men, negating the comeback hopes, as UWEC scored late to seal the win.
