RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The UW-River Falls women's basketball team fell 63-54 Saturday afternoon against No. 8-ranked UW-Whitewater.
Both teams shot under 40 percent from the field and had a combined 39 turnovers. UWW held a 39-32 edge in rebounds.
After jumping out to a 21-10 lead after the first quarter, the Warhawks held a lead for the remainder of the game despite some several pushes back from the Falcons.
The Falcons held the Warhawks to under 40 percent shooting in the first half, but also struggled to find a shooting stride with a 25 mark from the field through the first two periods, trailing 31-20 at halftime.
UWRF's shooting numbers improved in the second half, totaling 17 points in each of the two final periods.
Trailing by 18 points heading into the fourth quarter, the Falcons limited UWW to a 3-of-13 ledger from the field in the fourth and cut the Warhawks lead to single-digits with a
Jenna Zeman layup late in regulation, trailing 62-54. It was too little too late, however, as the Warhawks sealed the win down the stretch.
The Falcons' balanced offense featured nine scorers, led by nine points each from
Cassie Heinrichs and
Katelyn Karch.
Olivia Miron followed with eight points off the bench and seven points and seven rebounds from
Macy Nilsen.
UW-River Falls, now 9-11 overall and 2-8 in the WIAC, hits the road next week for conference matchups at UW-La Crosse and UW-Platteville.
