HANCOCK, Mich. - The UW-River Falls women's soccer team opened its 2022 season on Sept. 1, earning a 3-0 shutout at Finlandia University.
Under 11 minutes into the match, the Falcons earned a 2-0 lead, and were led by a two-goal effort from sophomore forward
Madyson Shew.
UWRF out-shot the Lions 20-3, with 12 shots on target. Shew and
Lexi Peterson each had three shots on goal.
Just under five minutes into the contest,
Aliviah McClinton scored the eventual game-winner off a cross pass from Shew. Shew scored her first goal of the game soon after, assisted by
Gretchen Hanson, and the Falcons led 2-0 at halftime.
The Falcons limited Finlandia to just one shot in the second half, while Shew scored at the 73rd minute to pad the lead, assisted by
Elizabeth Felty - her first collegiate point. It was her fifth career multi-goal performance.
Goalkeeper
Kaylie Krueger earned the win in net, tallying two saves en route to her fourth career shutout.
UWRF heads to Mankato, Minn. next to face Bethany Lutheran College on Saturday, Sept. 3.
