MORRIS, Minn. – The UW-River Falls women's soccer team remained undefeated with a 5-4 nonconference win at the University of Minnesota-Morris on Tuesday afternoon.
UWRF, now 5-0-1 overall, led 32-12 in shots, tying a season-high with 22 shots on goal.
A busy first half led to six goals, with the Falcons and Cougars knotted 3-3 after 45 minutes.
Five goals were scored in the game's first 18 minutes.
Lexi Peterson opened the game's scoring before the home team quickly responded to lead 2-1, which included a Falcon own goal.
Down a goal, UWRF regained the lead with goals from
Morgan Van Houten and
Madyson Shew. However, Morris scored late in the half to deadlock the score at the break.
The Falcons outshot the Cougars 19-6 in the second half while adding another pair of goals.
Aliviah McClinton scored her second penalty kick goal of the season and team-leading fourth goal total at the 70
th minute, and nine minutes later
Lauren Best scored her first collegiate goal to grant UWRF a two-goal cushion, which stood as the game-winner after Morris scored late to cut the lead to 5-4.
Peterson finished the game with five points, recording a goal and two assists. McClinton and Shew also had a goal and an assist each.
Kaylie Krueger made her fifth start in goal and improved her record to 4-0-1.
The Falcons travel to St. Bonifacius, Minn., on Thursday to face Crown College.
