RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The UW-River Falls women's soccer team remained undefeated with a 2-0 victory over Cornell College Sunday afternoon at Ramer Soccer Stadium.
Lexi Peterson and
Alayna Westerman scored the Falcon goals while
Grace Zellmer made a season-high six saves to notch her fourth shutout of the season. The Falcons, now 8-0-2 overall, have totaled eight shutouts in 2022 and have tallied four in a row.
It didn't take long for UWRF to score the eventual game-winner, as Peterson scored her third of the season with help from
Hannah Gagnelius just over three minutes into the contest. The Falcons outshot Cornell 9-2 in the first half and led 1-0 at the break.
The visiting Rams outshot UWRF 13-7 in the second half, but couldn't get one past Zellmer and the Falcons.
At the 64th minute, the Falcons were granted a penalty kick, in which Westerman converted to give UWRF a 2-0 cushion, her third goal of the season. The Falcons are 5-for-5 on penalty kicks.
UWRF finished with a 16-15 lead in shots, and 3-2 advantage on corner kicks.
The Falcons have one more nonconference contest at Martin Luther College on Tuesday before heading into WIAC competition.
