NEW ULM, Minn. – The UW-River Falls women's soccer team extended its unbeaten streak with its fifth consecutive shutout Tuesday afternoon, defeating Martin Luther College 5-0.
Five different Falcons found the back of the net while UWRF compiled a season-high 35 shots. The defense limited the Knights to just a pair of shots on target.
The Falcons took a 2-0 lead in the first half, outshooting the Knights 16-3, with nine shots on target.
Lexi Peterson got the scoring started just under 13 minutes into the game, while
Gretchen Hanson scored her first career goal at the 38
th minute.
UWRF added a trio of goals in the second half from
Alayna Westerman,
Aliviah McClinton, and
Lauren Best.
Peterson was credited with a pair of assists in the second half to finish the game with four points (1g-2a). McClinton led the Falcons with five shots on goal.
Grace Zellmer recorded her fifth consecutive shutout, notching two saves to improve her record to 4-0-0.
The Falcons, now 9-0-2 overall, head into WIAC competition this Saturday, Oct. 1 during Homecoming at Ramer Soccer Stadium, hosting UW-Whitewater.
