No. 19 Falcons to face No. 4 Saint John's

RIVER FALLS, Wis. - The No. 19-ranked UW-River Falls football team heads to Collegeville, Minn., this Saturday for a nonconference matchup at No. 4-ranked Saint John's University.

The reigning Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Champions defeated previously ranked No. 4 UW-Whitewater 24-10 last week, while the Falcons also opened the season 1-0 with a 63-0 at Elmhurst University.

LAST TIME OUT
  • UWRF opened the season with a 63-0 win at Elmhurst University last Saturday. It marked the most points scored during a season opener in program history and was a program record for largest margin of victory.
  • UWRF totaled 560 yards of total offense while limiting Elmhurst to 79. The Falcon defense caused five Bluejay turnovers with three interceptions and two fumble recoveries.
  • Running back Michael Krueger (So., River Falls, Wis.) scored three rushing touchdowns while four different receivers collected TD receptions. Quarterbacks Kaleb Blaha (So., Fridley, Minn.), Seth Howard (Sr., Oskaloosa, Iowa), and Tyler Schweigert (Fr., Cave Creek, Ariz.) all found the end zone.
AGAINST THE JOHNNIES
  • Saturday's matchup will mark the 10th all-time meeting between UW-River Falls and Saint John's, with the Johnnies leading the series 8-1. 
  • UWRF's sole win against the Johnnies was in 1937, a 12-6 victory.
  • The two teams last met in 2014 in Collegeville, Minn., a 27-8 SJU win.
2021 BREAKOUT SEASON
  • The 2021 Falcons turned in the best record in program history since 1996, going 9-2 along with a 5-2 conference record.
  • UWRF capped off its season with a 48-27 win over WashU in the inaugural Culver's Isthmus Bowl, the first ever bowl game in the state of Wisconsin. In the game, the Falcons tied an NCAA Division III single-game record with 44 first downs, matching the University of Massachusetts-Maritime total from 2013.
  • UWRF broke program season records for most first downs, total offense, scoring average, passing touchdowns, and more. The Falcons led the WIAC in total offense and finished ranked second nationally with 544.3 yards per game.
  • 13 Falcons and a total of 14 All-WIAC selections was the most in program history, headlined by Matt Walker named the Co-WIAC Coach of the Year with UW-Whitewater head coach Kevin Bullis.

  • The Falcons opened the 2022 season ranked No. 16 by Lindy's Sports and No. 18 by D3football.com in the 2022 Preseason Polls. 
  • In this week's D3football.com Top 25 Poll, UWRF is ranked No. 19 with 193 points. 
  • UWRF was picked third in the WIAC Preseason Poll.
