PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The UW-River Falls men's basketball team fell 79-66 Saturday evening at UW-Platteville.
UWRF dips to 8-9 overall and 2-4 during WIAC competition.
Rodrick Payne led the Falcons with 23 points, shooting 9-of-14 from the field along with a team-high six rebounds.
Logan Jedwabny and
Mason Anderson followed with 10 points each.
In the first half, the Falcons and Pioneers each shot nearly 45 percent from the field to be locked up 34-34 at the break. The first half had four lead changes, and a Dylan Paker layup knotted the score heading into the intermission.
While the Falcons' shooting number improved in the second half, so did the Pioneers, as UWP shot over 60 percent from the floor in the final 20 minutes.
Platteville opened the second half on a 12-5 run to gain a 47-39 advantage four minutes in, and surrendered its lead just once more.
UWRF answered with a 10-1 run in the next four minutes, capped off with a
Tyler Curvey triple to give the Falcons a 49-48 lead. That was the visitors final lead of the contest, however, as the Pioneers held a lead for the rest of the night.
UWP scored 29 points off Falcon turnovers while UWRF led 38-36 in the paint.
The Falcons host No. 15-ranked UW-La Crosse next Wednesday, Jan. 18.
