SAINT PETER, Minn. – The UW-River Falls men's hockey team won 3-1 Saturday night at Gustavus Adolphus College.
The Falcons split its weekend of non-conference road contests versus MIAC opponents after falling last night at St. Scholastica. UWRF improves to 7-9-1 overall with the win over the Gusties.
After Gustavus opened the scoring late in the first, the Falcons responded with three unanswered goals while
Dean Buchholz shut the door in net with 10 saves to earn the win.
UWRF out shot the Gusties 20-11, and scored twice in the second to earn a lead before another in the third for insurance.
Connor McGrath scored his fifth of the season at 13:22 of the second.
Owen Belisle, who scored his first as a Falcon last night, added another after sniping a goal past the Gustie goaltender off a drop pass from McGrath to give UWRF a 2-1 lead heading into the third period.
In the third, UWRF turned aside a Gustie power play and added on to its lead at the 14-minute mark, as
Noah Ganske scored his second goal of the weekend, capitalizing off a Gustie turnover.
The Falcons (7-9-1, 1-5-1 WIAC) head back into conference action next weekend at nationall-ranked UW-Stevens Point.
