STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-River Falls men's hockey team fell to the No. 10 ranked UW-Stevens Point 4-5 Friday night.
The Pointers got on the board first scoring at 14:25 in the first period. The Falcons tied it up in their first power play opportunity of the night. A minute and a half into the penalty,
Connor McGrath scored on a pass from
Burke Simpson and
Arsenii Smekhnov.
In the second, the Pointers broke the 1-1 tie scoring at 6:22 on a power play opportunity that came after
Logan Severson was called for interference. A little over two minutes later,
Josh Martin found the back of the net tying it up 2-2. The Pointers scored two more goals in the second period to lead 4-2 going into the third period.
The Falcons owned the third period outshooting the Pointers 11-6 and scoring two goals. The first came at 5:16 by
Peter Grytdahl. In the final two minutes of the game
Mike Gelatt tied it up 4-4 whn he scored on a pass from
Noah Roofe.
When it looked like overtime was on the horizon the Pointers scored at 19:21 and secured the 5-4 win.
UWRF had 25 shots on goal.
Dean Buchholz took the loss in goal but collected 22 saves.
The Falcons (7-10-1, 1-6-1 WIAC) rematch against the Pointers Saturday night at 7 p.m.
