STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-River Falls men's hockey team 5-2 at No. 10-ranked UW-Stevens Point Saturday evening.
UWSP earns the series sweep over the Falcons, improving to 12-3-3 overall and remaining unbeaten at 8-0 in the WIAC, while UWRF dips to 7-11-1 overall and 1-7-1 in the WIAC.
The Pointers out-shot the Falcons 48-26 and went 2-for-8 on the power play, scoring three unanswered to close out the game after a
Dylan Smith shorthanded goal tied the game at 2-2 in the second.
Down 1-0 after the first period, UWRF's
Billy Feczko opened the second period's scoring with his sixth of the season, assisted by Joe Foss and
Connor McGrath. UWSP scored just 17 seconds later to regain the lead.
Smith scored his sixth goal of the season unassisted at 16:52 of the second, and once again the home team had an answer to lead 3-2 heading into the third period.
UWRF committed four penalties in the third period, resulting in a pair of Pointer power play goals.
Dean Buchholz conceded the loss in net despite collecting a career-high 43 saves.
The Falcons head to UW-Superior Jan. 27-28.
