SUPERIOR, Wis. – The UW-River Falls men's hockey team fell 1-0 in the opener of the weekend WIAC series at UW-Superior Friday evening.
The Yellowjackets edged the Falcons 31-29 in shots on goal, and converted on their first power play chance of the game in the third period after a scoreless first 40 minutes for the eventual game-winner.
UWRF, now 7-12-1 and 1-8-1 in the WIAC, was held scoreless for the first time since UWS also shut out the Falcons on Nov. 18 in River Falls.
The Falcons went 0-for-2 on the power play. Trailing 1-0 late in regulation, goaltender
Dysen Skinner was pulled for the extra attacker, but to no avail.
Mike Gelatt led the Falcons with four shots on goal.
Skinner took the loss in net while tallying 30 saves.
UWRF looks to bounce back tomorrow night during the series finale at 7 p.m. in Superior.
