Falcons top Blue Devils for first WIAC win

MENOMONIE, Wis. - The UW-River Falls women's soccer shut out UW-Stout 1-0 Wednesday evening for its first conference win of the season.

The Falcons, now 6-3-3 overall and 1-1-1 in the WIAC, collect three points in the league standings with the team.

After a scoreless first half and nearly 80 minutes of the contest, Falcon freshman Emery Bigler broke past the Blue Devil defense from a long pass from Haley James, and converted her third goal of the season for the eventual game-winner.

UWRF held a 16-13 shot advantage, with eight on target while limiting Stout to just a pair of shots on goal. The home team held a slim 4-3 lead in corner kicks.

Ellie Ketcher and Madyson Shew led the team with two shots on goal each.

Grace Zellmer made the start in net for the Falcons and made a pair of saves to earn her third shutout of the season while improving her record to 4-3-1.

The Falcons continue conference play this Saturday hosting No. 10-ranked UW-La Crosse.
