Falcons down Hamline 3-0 for fourth-straight shutout

RIVER FALLS, Wis. - The UW-River Falls women's soccer team earned a 3-0 nonconference win at Hamline University Wednesday afternoon.

The shutout marks the Falcons' fourth in a row and sixth of the season as their overall record improved to 5-2-3 overall.

UWRF outshot the Pipers 15-7 with eight shots on target while leading 5-2 in corner kick chances, converting on one as well as Elizabeth Devecchi scored her first of the season from an excellently placed corner kick.

The Falcons scored twice in the first half and added one more in the second while Grace Zellmer made a trio of saves to improve her record to 3-2-1 on the season with her second shutout.

Abby Tapanila scored her second goal of the season at the 25th minute, which stood as the eventual game-winner. Devecchi scored near the end of the half to give the Falcons a 2-0 halftime lead.

Hamline held UWRF's shot advantage to 5-4 in the final 45 minutes, but the Falcon defense held strong while they added more insurance just over a minute into the second half as Aliviah McClinton scored her fourth of the season with an assist from Emery Bigler.

The Falcons head back into WIAC action this weekend, traveling to UW-Stevens Point on Saturday.
