PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The UW-River Falls volleyball team suffered a pair of neutral site losses at the UW-Platteville Quadrangular Saturday afternoon, falling against Carthage College and Millikin University.
The Falcons, now 14-7 overall, head back into WIAC action on Wednesday at UW-La Crosse.
Carthage 3, UW-River Falls 2
During the day's opener against the Firebirds, who received votes in this week's AVCA National Coaches' Poll, in the Falcons fell in five sets (25-20, 24-26, 18-25, 25-20, 14-16).
After taking the first set 25-20 and claiming a 1-0 lead, Carthage won the next two to take a 2-1 lead. UWRF answered with another 25-20 win before a tight fifth set, with the Falcons falling by two points.
The Falcons had 13 kills with a .212 hitting percentage in the first set, but after that were held to under .200 attacking percentages for the remainder of the match.
Sami Hilley led the Falcons with 12 kills and a .407 hitting percentage. Setters
Grace Boles and
Olivia Gustafsson combined for 34 assists, led by 19 from Boles.
Millikin 3, UW-River Falls 1
After a long first match, the Falcons got off to a slow start against Millikin, going down 2-0.
The Big Blue took the first two sets 25-14 and 25-21 before the Falcons responded with a 25-17 set three victory. However, Millikin closed out the match with a 25-14 win in set four to earn the victory.
UWRF was strong in the third set, compiling a .361 hitting percentage off 16 kills and just three errors.
Lauren Noth led the Falcons with 16 kills and a .316 attack percentage while
Hannah Polk had a career-high 34 assists.
