SUPERIOR, Wis. - The UW-River Falls men's basketball team wrapped up its second and final day at the UW-Superior Merrill Thompson Classic Saturday afternoon against the host Yellowjackets, falling by a score of 75-70.
The Falcons drop to 0-2 overall with the loss, and will host Gustavus Adolphus College next Wednesday for their home opener.
Despite shooting over 40 percent from the field and out-rebounding the Yellowjackets 44-34, UWS outscored the Falcons 44-34 in the second half and had a standout performance from J'Vaun Walker, who scored nearly half of the Yellowjackets' points with 38 of 14-of-23 shooting.
UWRF outscored UWS 36-31 in the first half and held held a lead for 22 minutes of the game, including a 20-7 lead early on as a
Garret Honstrom jumper with 11:54 left in the first half to give the Falcons a 13-point advantage, their largest of the contest.
UWRF saw its lead dissipate minutes into the second half and they didn't earn back a lead for the rest of regulation. The Falcons were plagued by turnovers, committing 19 that turned into 22 Yellowjacket points.
Logan Jedwabny led the Falcons with 17 points off 5-of-10 shooting from the field and 4-of-8 from three-point range.
Zac Johnson followed with 14 points while
Jack Leifker had 10 rebounds.
