MORRIS, Minn. - The UW-River Falls women's basketball team earned its first win of the season Wednesday evening with a 47-37 victory at the University of Minnesota Morris.
UWRF, now 1-1 overall, was limited to under 30 percent shooting from the field while the Cougars also were held to under an 30 percent mark from the floor.
The Falcons were led by the duo of
Macy Nilsen and
Zoey Buchan, who combined for over half the the team's points. Nilsen led the way with 17 points, including four three-pointers, coupled with Buchan's 12 points.
UMM out-rebounded UWRF 46-37 while the Falcons scored 14 points off 19 Cougar turnovers.
Olivia Miron led the Falcons with seven rebounds while Nilsen and
Julia Seidel had a pair of steals each.
Down 23-16 at halftime, the Falcons bounced back by outscoring the Cougars 31-14 in the second half.
The home team led for the first three quarters before the Falcons scored 17 points in the final 10 minutes and took their first lead of the night with a Nilsen three-pointer to open the fourth quarter, giving UWRF a 33-32 lead. The Falcons then maintained a lead for the rest of regulation.
