No. 7 Falcons host No. 4 Eagles on Senior Day

The No. 7/10-ranked UW-River Falls football team closes out its regular season home schedule this Saturday, hosting No. 4-ranked UW-La Crosse.

SENIOR NIGHT

  • The Falcons will recognize the 2023 senior class for their contribution to the program:
  • The 2023 Falcon Football senior class has led UWRF to an overall record of 25-15 since 2019, including a 23-6 record the past three seasons, and the highest national rankings by coaches' polls and media outlets in program history, as high as fourth in the country. In addition, these Falcons have earned seven All-Conference awards, two All-Region honors, and features an All-American. This group has led the program to back-to-back Isthmus Bowl titles, a program-record nine-win season in 2021, program records for margin of victory and most points scored against a league opponent, tied an NCAA Division III record for most first downs, and many more milestones.
AGAINST THE EAGLES
  • Saturday's matchup marks the 106th all-time matchup between UW-River Falls and UW-La Crosse, with the Eagles holding a 66-32-7 series advantage.
  • Last season, the Falcons came up short at UW-La Crosse, falling 24-17.
  • UWRF's last win against UWL came during the 2015 season, a 21-20 overtime victory in River Falls.
LAST TIME OUT
  • UWRF is coming off a a 49-35 road win at UW-Stout last Saturday, led by Kaleb Blaha's program record-breaking six rushing touchdowns, which also tied a WIAC record.
    • For his performance, Blaha was named to the D3football.com National Team of the Week for the third time this season and earned WIAC Football Offensive Player of the Week honors.
IN THE RANKINGS
  • For the second consecutive week, the Falcons are ranked No. 7 in the D3football.com Top 25 poll and No. 10 in the AFCA Coaches' Poll. 
  • UWRF has been ranked inside the D3football.com top 10 for eight weeks in a row.
  • The Falcons were ranked as high as No. 4 this season by both bolls, marking the highest in program history by a national coaches' poll and a national media outlet.
  • UWRF was picked to finish fourth in the WIAC Preseason Poll and debuted at No. 23 in the D3football.com Preseason Poll.
FALCON NOTES
  • The Falcon offense ranks fourth in DIII with 544 yards of total offense per game and second with 235 total first downs.
  • Quarterback Kaleb Blaha is the DIII leader with 381.8 yards of total offense per game and is a three-time D3football.com Team of the Week honoree this season.
    • Blaha also ranks third nationally with 16 rushing touchdowns and points responsible for (228, 28.5 per game).
    • At Ohio Wesleyan on Sept. 9, Blaha compiled a UWRF single-game record 566 yards of total offense, and he currently ranks third all-time at UWRF with 6,980 career yards of total offense behind Ben Beckman's total of 6,991 (2015-19).
  • Senior wide receiver Jager Reissmann leads the Falcons with 29 receptions this season, and recently moved into third all-time at UWRF with 126 career catches.
  • UWRF's rushing defense leads the conference and ranks 14th nationally with 61.5 rushing yards against per game.
    • Jake McCortney leads the team and ranks fifth in the WIAC with eight tackles for loss.
    • Defensive back Dylan Brown ranks second in the WIAC in passes defended with 11 (10 pass breakups, one interception). At the University of Northwestern on Sept. 16, Brown tallied his 28th career pass breakup to become the UWRF all-time leader in pass breakups.
