LA CROSSE, Wis. - The UW-River Falls women's basketball team earned a 61-51 win over Simpson College Sunday afternoon during a neutral site matchup on the campus of UW-La Crosse.
The Falcons, now 4-1 overall with their fourth win in a row, had their originally scheduled first game at the UWL Gundersen Hotel & Suites Thanksgiving Classic against Northland College canceled.Â
UWRF was paced by a collective effort offensively with nine different Falcons in the scoring column, led by 13 points each from
Karleigh Creasey and
Kameri Meredith. Creasey also added a game-high five assists while
Averie Varsho led the team with a career-high nine rebounds.
The Falcons held a narrow 41-39 edge in rebounds while shooting 20-of-57 from the field and 7-of-28 from beyond the arc. Simpson led 36-22 in the paint but UWRF forced 16 Storm turnovers, turning those into 15 points.
The lead changed five times throughout the game, with neither team leading by double digits until the very end of the contest as a couple made free throws by
Kameri Meredith pushed the Falcon lead to 59-49 with 30 seconds left in regulation.
UWRF remains in non-conference play next Wednesday, facing North Central University in Minneapolis, Minn.
