STEVENS POINT, Wis. - The UW-River Falls men's hockey team fell 4-2 at No. 8-ranked UW-Stevens Point Friday evening.
UWRF, now 4-4 overall, and 1-3 during conference action, led 2-1 after two periods before the Pointers rallied for a three goals in the third period, including an empty net goal late to secure the win.
After a scoreless first period, the Falcons scored twice in the middle frame, a pair of even strength goals from
Burke Simpson and
Matt Clark, both their firsts of the season.
Leading by a goal heading into the final 20 minutes, UWSP stormed back with a power play goal around the six minute mark to tie the game, and took its first lead minutes later. Late in regulation trailing 3-2, the Falcon pulled goaltender
Dean Buchholz in hopes of tying the contest, but the Pointers held strong and scored an empty net goal to secure the 4-2 win.
UWRF went 0-for-6 on ther power play while the UWSP went 1-for-6. UWSP held a slight edge in shots on goal, 26-24.
Valentino Passarelli led the Falcons with four shots on goal.
Buchholz made 24 saves while suffering the loss.Â
The Falcons return to Hunt Arena tomorrow night to host Northland College.
