RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-River Falls men's hockey team picked up a 4-3 nonconference win Thursday night at Hunt Arena.
The Falcons scored first on their lone power play opportunity of the night.
Jonny Meiers found the back of the net in the final seconds of the five minute major penalty that Lawrence was called for.
Lawrence took the lead in the second period scoring two goals in the first ten minutes.
Connor McGrath and
Vilho Saariluoma answered back with back to back goals in the final five minutes of the second period.
Meiers scored again in the third to extend the Falcons lead to 4-2.
The Falcons edged out Lawrence in shots on goal 36-31.
Dean Buchholz got the win in goal with 28 saves. Meiers and
Josh Martin each finished the night with two points.
UWRF faces Lawrence for night two of the double header Friday night. Puck drop is set for 7:05 pm.
