WAVERLY, Iowa - The UW-River Falls women's basketball team defeated Crown College 76-60 Saturday afternoon on the campus of Wartburg College during the Knights' Holiday Tournament consolation final.
The Falcons close out the 2023 calendar year with a 9-2 overall record and will open its WIAC schedule next Wednesday, Jan. 3 at UW-La Crosse.
After scoring a season-high 29 points yesterday,
Macy Nilsen led the Falcons again with a team-high 13 points to reach 1,000 points in her career as a Falcon dating back to 2020. She also eclipsed the century mark in scoring last season including her 2019-20 season at the University of Jamestown.
After the Polars outscored the Falcons 17-15 in the first frame, UWRF dominated the second quarter with a 23-7 scoring margin to claim a 14-point advantage at halftime, which was enough room for victory as the Falcons maintained a double-digit lead for all of the second half.
UWRF shot just over 40 percent from the field and held Crown to 34.5 percent shooting, also holding a 46-40 edge in rebounds.Â
Olivia Miron led the Falcons with eight rebounds while Nilsen had three assists and a pair of steals.
