LA CROSSE, Wis. - The UW-River Falls women's basketball team fell 66-62 Wednesday evening at UW-La Crosse in the 2024 WIAC opener.
The Falcons, now 9-3 overall and 0-1 in the WIAC, traded 10 leads with the Eagles despite the home team ending on top in a competitive matchup.
UWRF was held to 33.3 percent shooting from the field while UWL shot 43.1 percent and held a 41-37 edge in rebounds. The Falcons led 14-7 in second chance points and 22-17 off turnovers.
Julia Seidel led the Falcons with 19 points off the bench, making a career-high five three-pointers.
Kameri Meredith held the team-lead with eight rebounds.
The Falcons closed out the first half with a Seidel triple and free throw to earn a 29-26 halftime lead, which was followed by an even 20-20 output in the third quarter leading to a UWRF 49-46 advantage heading into the final 10 minutes.
In the fourth quarter, UWRF maintained its lead until just before the two-minute mark when an Eagle layup gave UWL a 59-57 lead and the home team didn't look back, holding the lead for the rest of regulation.
UWRF hosts UW-Platteville this Saturday at Page Arena.
