The top-seeded UWRF women's hockey team hosts No. 2 seed UW-Eau Claire this Saturday, March 4 for the WIAC O'Brien Cup Championship.

  • Thanks to the UW-River Falls Student Government Association, ALL UW-River Falls student tickets are FREE for all postseason games in River Falls. Tickets are available at the door 90 minutes before game time.
WIAC O'BRIEN CUP HISTORY
  • The Falcons own an overall record of 25-3-2 during the WIAC Tournament and have won seven O'Brien Cup titles since its inception in 2014.
  • Last season, UWRF won its third-straight O'Brien Cup, sweeping UW-Superior in the semifinals and defeating UW-Eau Claire 6-3 in the championship game.
THE SERIES
  • Saturday's game marks the 94th all-time meeting between UW-River Falls and UW-Eau Claire, with the Falcons holding a 65-17-11 series advantage.
  • The Falcons and Blugolds have met in six of the nine total WIAC O'Brien Cup Championship games since the tournament's inception in 2014, including six-straight meetings. UWRF has won the last three after UWEC won back-to-back in 2018-19.
FALCON NOTES
  • UWRF swept its WIAC Semifinal matchup versus Northland last weekend, outscoring the Lumberjacks 16-1 through two games. Madison Lavergne led the Falcons with five points off two goals and three assists, and was named the UWRF Female Falcon of the Week.
  • UWRF is ranked No. 3 in the latest USCHO Division III poll for the second consecutive week. The Falcons were previously ranked No. 1 for four-straight weeks.
  • The Falcons own the top scoring offense in NCAA Division III, averaging 5.7 goals per game with 418 total team points, (154 goals, 264 assists), and a 34.9 power-play percentage.
  • Maddie McCollins is UWRF's leading scorer with 47 points off 27 goals and 20 assists.
    • McCollins is one goal shy of breaking UWRF's single-game goal record, and is currently tied with Dani Sibley's total from 2017 - the year she won AHCA Player of the Year.
  • Fifth-year senior forward Abigail Stow recorded her 100th career assist last Saturday versus Northland and currently ranks second on the UWRF all-time scoring list with 174 career points in 120 games played.
    • She's currently tied for the all-time assists record (100) with former Falcon Callie Hoff.
  • Goaltender Sami Miller owns a 14-1-1 record with a pair of shutouts and leads the nation with a 0.906 winning percentage.
    • Miller earned her 16th career shutout during a 4-0 win over UW-Stevens Point on Nov. 11 at Hunt Arena to become the UWRF all-time shutouts leader, passing former All-American Angie Hall, who totaled 15 shutouts from 2014-18.
