RIVER FALLS, Wis. - The UW-River Falls women's soccer team opened its 2023 season with a commanding 8-1 victory over Crown College Friday afternoon at Ramer Soccer Stadium.
UWRF outshot the Polars 33-7 while
Aliviah McClinton scored twice and three Falcon freshmen scored their first collegiate goals.
It took the Falcons just three minutes into the 2023 campaign to get on the board, with
Lauren Best scoring the first Falcon goal of the season, assisted by
Abby Tapanila. Shortly after,
Aliviah McClinton scored her first of two goals on the day, which stood as the eventual game-winner.
A
Lexi Peterson goal extended the UWRF lead to 3-0 at the 22nd minute mark before the Polars scored their lone goal minutes later, setting the halftime score at 3-1 in favor of the home team.
UWRF added five more goals in the second half, including collegiate firsts for
Emery Bigler,
Abby Drontle, and
Ellie Ketcher during their debuts.
Abigial Goodwin also scored in the second half, along with McClinton's second of the game. McClinton also added an assist for a total of five points on the day.
Lauren Best,
Lexi Peterson, and
Ellie Ketcher each had three-point performances with a goal and an assist.
Kaylie Krueger and
Grace Zellmer each played one half in net to combine for the win.
The Falcons, 1-0 overall, host Bethany Lutheran College this Sunday, Sept. 3 at 7 p.m. at David Smith Stadium. The game was pushed back and moved to the turf due to forecasted warm temperatures and the ability to utilize the lights.
