EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - The UW-River Falls women's basketball team earned a 54-50 win Wednesday evening at UW-Eau Claire.
The Falcons' first WIAC win of the season improves their overall record to 10-4 and 1-2 in the league.
UWRF forced 14 Blugold turnovers in the first half, turning those into 11 points to take a 22-21 lead into the locker room.
In the third period, UWRF limited the home team to just 2-of-9 shooting from the field while outscoring the Blugolds 15-11 to earn a 37-32 lead heading into the final 10 minutes.
The Falcons had their strongest shooting efficiency in the fourth quarter, making 6-of-13 field goals. UWRF led by as many as nine with a
Macy Nilsen layup four minutes in, but the Blugolds answered with a 12-2 run to take a 47-46 lead with 2:50 left in regulation.
In the final three minutes, UWRF and UWEC traded a couple leads before some clutch Falcon baskets down the stretch, including an
Olivia Miron layup with under a minute, along with free throws from
Katelyn Karch and
Zoey Buchan to seal the win.
Karleigh Creasey led the Falcons with 11 points, trailed by Nilsen with nine who also had a team-high six rebounds.
UWRF remains on the road this Saturday, traveling to face UW-Oshkosh.
