Women's Basketball defeats Pointers in OT, 63-60

RIVER FALLS, Wis. - The UW-River Falls women's basketball team won 63-60 in overtime over UW-Stevens Point, who received votes in the latest WBCA and D3hoops.com national polls, Wednesday night at Page Arena.

With the Falcons first overtime win of the season and first overtime game since defeating the Pointers in the 2022 WIAC Tournament, UWRF improves to 10-6 overall and 2-3 in the WIAC.

The Falcons got off to a slow start, trailing by as many as 11 while being outscored 20-12 in the first 10 minutes. Down 31-23 at halftime, UWRF bounced back with a strong third quarter, outscoring UWSP 20-9 and shooting 9-of-11 at the free throw line. A pair of Karleigh Creasey free throws gave UWRF its first lead since early on at 38-36.

In the fourth quarter, UWRF gained a seven-point lead with a Macy Nilsen triple, but the Pointers hung tough and forced overtime with the score knotted at 54-54. 

Zoey Buchan opened the overtime scoring with a three-pointer before UWSP took back the lead. Down 60-59 with just over a minute left, an long pass from Buchan to Olivia Hoerl back the lead for the home team, and a pair of Buchan free throws late sealed the win.

Buchan finished with a team-high 16 points and four steals off the bench, trailed by 13 from Hoerl against her former team. Olivia Miron led the Falcons with a career-high 13 rebounds. 

The Falcons travel to face No. 4-ranked UW-Whitewater on Saturday.
