RIVER FALLS, Wis. - The UW-River Falls men's hockey team suffered a heartbreaker Friday evening losing to No. 7 UW-Stevens Point in the final minute of the matchup 3-4.
The Falcons scored the loan first period goal at 5:22 when
Noah Roofe scored an unassisted goal.
The Pointers took charge of things in the second scoring two goals and taking a 2-1 lead. Their second goal came on the power play opportunity after
Matt Clark was called for tripping.
Dylan Smith tied the match up 2-2 at 14:47 on a pass from
Jonny Meiers. He found the back of the net again at 18:40 to give the Falcons a 3-2 lead going into the second intermission.
Tied 3-3 going in the final minute of the matchup the Pointers scored and took the lead 4-3. The Falcons pulled goaltender
Dean Buchholz for the extra shooter, but it came up short.
UWRF had 25 shots on goal and was led by
Dylan Smith who had eight shots on goal and two goals. Buchholz had 34 saves.
The Falcons host the Pointers in night two of the matchup Saturday evening at Hunt Arena. Puck drop is 7:05 pm.
