RIVER FALLS, Wis. - The UW-River Falls men's hockey team fell short in the night two matchup against No. 7 UW-Stevens Point Saturday at Hunt Arena. The Pointers won the matchup 4-1.
The Falcons took advantage of their first power play opportunity scoring 25 seconds in.
Dylan Smith, who has scored in the last three contests for the Falcons, found the back of the net giving the Falcons a 1-0 lead. Assisting him on the goal was
Alex Davis and
Jonny Meiers.
The lead was short lived for the Falcons as the Pointers scored two goals in the first period to lead at the first intermission 2-1. Stevens Point scored two more in the second to lead 4-1.
Dean Buchholz took the loss in goal giving up four goals while collecting 18 saves.
Dysen Skinner relieved Buchholz of his duties in the second collecting 12 saves and not allowing the Pointers another goal.
The Falcons had 32 shots on goal and were 1-for-6 on the power play opportunity.
UWRF, who is now 11-8 overall and 3-6 in WIAC play, hosts UW-Superior this coming weekend. Earlier this season the Falcons defeated the Yellowjackets 2-1.
