ELMHURST, Ill. — The UW-River Falls volleyball team splits its second day at the Elmhurst University Invitational, defeating Albion College before falling to Elmhurst.
The Falcons, now 9-14 overall, head back into WIAC play on Wednesday at UW-Stout.
UW-River Falls 3, Albion 2
The Falcons defeated Albion College in five sets (25-19, 22-25, 25-21, 20-25, 16-14) during their second match of the weekend and first of the day, snapping a four-game losing skid.
UWRF and Albion went back and forth, trading sets until the Falcons prevailed in the fifth set. Down 14-12 late in the final frame, the Falcons closed out the set and match on a 4-0 run, including a pair of kills by Lauren Noth.
The Falcons, who hit at a rate of 13.5 percent, tied a season-high with 11 blocks, including five each from Blessing Adebisi and Reese Bauman. Lauren Noth paced the Falcons with a team-high 16 kills and 23 digs.
Elmhurst 3, UW-River Falls 1
During the final match of the weekend, the Falcons fell in four sets to the host school (20-25, 19-25, 25-22, 18-25).
Down two sets to none, the Falcons fought back in the third, winning 25-22 with a .125 hitting percentage along with 18 kills. Tied 17-17, the Falcons proceeded with a 7-0 run, capped off by two Blessing Adebisi kills in a row, which was enough to secure the set win.
In set four, the Falcons were strong with a .229 attacking rate, but the home team had an impressive 18 kills on just three errors as they outmatched the Falcons to close out the match.
Lauren Noth led the Falcons with 14 kills while Abbi Hassforth had a career-high 27 assists.
