ST. CLOUD, Minn. — The No. 15-ranked UW-River Falls men's hockey team suffered its first loss of the season on Thursday evening, falling 3-0 at Saint John's University.
The Johnnies were led by a 44-save shutout by goaltender Jon Howe, as they scored a trio of goals in the first two periods for the win. Jackson Sabo, Rob Christy, and Cam Boche scored SJU goals.
UWRF had 64 shot attempts, with only a pair blocked by the Johnnies. Six Falcons tallied at least four shots on goal, led by six from
Cole Teleki. The Falcons also won 56 percent of the faceoffs, paced by 23 wins from
Max Collette.
The third period featured UWRF's strongest push, outshooting the Johnnies 24-3, but they were blanked by Howe.
Brennan Boynton made 20 saves despite conceding his first loss in net.
The Falcons, now 3-1 overall, remains on the road for another non-conference game this Saturday, Nov. 16 at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn.
